Sleet and ice came on Monday night, and part of yesterday, then turned into snow. Behind the cut are some pics.

It's that time of year )
This song has driven me crazy since the first time I saw the episode it was in but I've not been able to figure out what the song is. I know that I should know it, but I just can't remember :(. That's why I made a clip of it so that maybe some of you might be able to help me figure it out.

There are a few spoken lines mixed in, but the song is dominate for most of this little clip.

Anyone know what it is?

This is Victor Borge's famous, 'Phonetic Punctuation', and behind the cut is his adaption of this method to music on The Dean Martin Show. This man is a riot. His 100th birthday is this month. This is in honor of that and this wonderfully funny man.

More Victor and poor Dean )
Anyone who knows fonts, can you help me?

http://junebugweddings.com/ <-- the junebug text; what is the font?
And that's not excitement. That's me being facetious.

We had a 2.8 earthquake in the area this morning at 2:47 a.m. I was asleep, as were most, and those that weren't just thought it was the storm that had rumbled through the area because the thunder from the storm had been rattling houses and windows.

These dang things are getting closer. Ugh. Now the USGS is going to be keeping an eye on things to make sure this isn't a foreshock for a more serious quake which can follow minutes, hours, or days after (as my CA friends know).

Pfft. You CA friends can keep your quakes! I love y'uns, but seriously!
I can't believe I've let the month go by without saying or posting anything. I've posted an essay I wrote once before, and decided to post the link to that post here so that you can read it if you haven't before.

my essay

ETA:  At the time I wrote this essay, it had been five years since I lost Mom.  It's now been eight.
The meme:  When you see this, post an excerpt from as many random works-in-progress stories as you like. Who knows? Maybe inspiration will burst forth and do something, um, inspiration-y.

Eh, why not?  I just got home from work, am sitting here gagging down some yogurt and granola, so I might as well do this meme to help take my mind off the nastiness that is yogurt (the pomegranate and blueberry juice I’m drinking is excellent though).

And away we go )

Now everyone that reads my stories understands why it takes me so long to get a chapter done.  I have too many stories going at once!  Although I must admit, a few of these I don’t work on at all anymore, they’re just waiting for me to finish others so I can work on, and finish, them.

and decided what the heck.

1. Pick 20 of your favourite films.
2. Pick a quote from each one.
3. As people guess the quote, put the title and their name by it. (Bonus points for knowing which characters!) And no cheating using Google or such either!

I've been C'd!
We went twenty years with no ice storms. Then bam!, we're hit with small one in November two years ago and then a larger one in January last year. Well...then we repeat again and get hit last month, and now again this month...twice. How crazy is that?

Anyway, I have more pics.

Again with the ice, oy! )
Went to the funeral, which was hard, but the day ended well when I turned around to see Keelie behind me in Wal-Mart!

She's gotten so big, and her hair is getting almost long enough to put in a ponytail now. Sniff. I miss her so much. This is the first time I've seen her since a few days before Christmas.
It's a sad but sweet and true love story.

Over fifty years ago, a man met a woman and fell in love. They shared the same birthday (which I often teased him about being a smart man for marrying a woman that shared his birthday so he wouldn't forget) and were married on Valentine's Day (teased him about this one too).

I've known this man and his wife all of my life. When I was little, I would run up to him and hug his knees because that was all I could reach, he was so tall. But, I didn't leave her out, I would fall asleep on her lap as she ran her fingers through my hair and she always got a hug.

As I got older, I still hugged them both, but didn't have to hug his knees, and didn't fall asleep on her lap anymore.  I watched them love each other through countless health problems. I even walked with her back to see him in the ER when he nearly died a couple of years ago.  Theirs was the love that's written about in movies and books.

Well, as those of you who read my post on Feb. 1st know, a friend of mine died on the 31st of January...that was her. Today, he passed away...just in time to spend Valentine's Day with his sweetheart...

He didn't forget their anniversay this year either...
It's now covered with a dusting of snow since light flurries have started, but you can still see the ice. I left the pics big so that you could click on them and see the details better. They're a bit dark...but it's not bright outside LOL

A view of one of the trees and the parking lot of the apartments next door to mine:

A view of the house on the other side of my building as well as the power lines:

And a view of the sidewalk and ground out the back door of my building:

Lovely, isn't it? And we're supposed to get more of this on Friday. Ugh.
Well, no work for me today.  I'm sitting here listening to ice pellets hitting the window.  The ground is white with them.  And there's more on the way.

They're saying we going to get up to an inch and a half of ice by the time this is over with.  Oy!  I just hope I don't lose power.

I'll post pics like I did with the other ice storm as soon as I get some.

Ice Storm 2008...here it comes.
spending my Sunday at work.  Most of the people that have come in today have been nothing short of bitches.  I don't know what it is, but I'm getting rather sick of the attitudes these women come in here with.

And...

It's damned cold outside!

Why am I busier than I was last week?

Makes no sense.

Sigh.

March can't get here fast enough.  Then I'll not have to work every frelling Sunday!

The only good thing...I now have access to wireless internet at work so I can bring my laptop with me and surf the net while I'm sitting here with no customers.
We had fun on the way and then when we got there we walked around the mall a little and looked at the new store space. It's big. You could fit the space the store is in now in this new space about three times over LOL

Lambert's was fun. Had a hamburger, fries, and fried okra...and of course a roll LOL The drinks were huge. There's no way I could have had a refill. I just barely manage to finish all of it. I know a hamburger isn't special...but a nice juicy hamburger was what I'd been craving so that's what I got.

Oh, and Piggy...my regional manager's husband got the chicken and dumplings...he said the dumplings didn't have any taste LOL

It's been a long day, and I'm tired, but I'm glad I got to go.

ETA: Oh yeah. I forgot to mention that on the way down to Sikeston, we were behind a truck hauling cars. And you'll never guess what was on the bottom rack.

A wine colored Rolls Royce with gold bumpers, grill, and hood ornament. It was gorgeous! It had a signature on the trunk, but I couldn't make out what it was. I was wishing at the time that I had a camera with me, but as usual...I didn't.

I am...

Feb. 1st, 2008 06:37 pm
freezing! This weather is so crazy. It dumped about four inches of snow on us yesterday and got cold, cold, cold.

But...

It's supposed to be nearly 70F (19C) Monday. We're all thinking, "Great...more storms, specifically tornadoes."

This weather is crazy.

And so are the people in this stupid town.

A woman came in today wearing a long skirt, winter boots, a sleeveless top...and no coat.

Brilliant, huh?

On another note...

I'm going to visit one of our stores tomorrow with the Reginonal Manager. She asked me today if I had anything planned for tomorrow (amazingly enough I'm off on a Sat. again...that's two in a row after not having one off since Sept. last year) and then asked if I wanted to go since I've only seen our store and the one I helped set up in 2006. I said sure, and she made the trip even better by telling me she'd take me to Lambert's afterward. Oh yeah.

I've not ever been there. Was supposed to go a few years ago for my b-day, but my brother never took me.

And the best part...

It's on the company so I can have whatever I want LOL

And...some day I'm going to Ireland. It's the land of half of my ancestors and it's beautiful. And they're are places that are so quiet and peaceful that it's like a small part of heaven here on earth. I have dreamed of going since I was a little girl. I think out of all the dreams I've ever had, going to Ireland and Scotland are the two I want most.

I love this song, although I don't like this guy's version. It's so sad, but beautiful and relaxing at the same time.

Yes, I'm in a strange mood. A very close friend died on Thursday, and the woman who became my second mother while I was watching my mother die from cancer lost her mother on Thursday as well. So, it's put me in this strange mood.
and they're so cute!

I've brought pics.

The bride walking down the aisle:

more wedding )

And once again with the last minute thing...I didn't know it, but I was enlisted to help with the reception.

I found this out when I got to the church and had a flower handed to me to pin on.

Nice.

I'm eloping when my day comes.

Eloping, I tell ya'.
strikes again.

I was supposed to make seventy-two cupcakes as you all know. Well...my sister wasn't clued in, nor was her oldest daughter, so the oldest daughter made over one hundred cupcakes. Which means...

My cupcakes weren't needed.

But I didn't find this out until I'd already mixed up two cake mixes.

So, we now have forty-eight extra cupcakes.

Sigh.

Why can't my family be more organized and stop doing things at the last danged minute?

Ugh.

Drives my one sister in law and I crazy.

This all just goes to prove even more than if I ever get married, I'm eloping.
and have a headache which I can't seem to get rid of. It's this crazy weather. My sinuses are all kinds of messed up.

Sigh.

Oh well.

On to other things...

I'm not singing in my niece's wedding. I am, however, making cupcakes. Seventy-two cupcakes to be exact.

Crazy.

I know...you're all thinking, "Cupcakes...at a wedding?", but you don't know my niece LOL We're doing good not having camo for the colors.

Besides...it's not like it's some big fancy wedding. It's just a simply affair, so a small cake for them to cut and the cupcakes are fine. And she's not trying to be the next fashion scoop ;)
